Hello

I'm a mum of one living with my husband and daughter on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

I have made a career out of helping people, spending more than 25 years in administrative and sales support roles in professional and financial services, latterly as an office manager, and currently as a professional organiser and declutterer on an ad-hoc basis.

Organising is in my blood, and over the years I have invariably become the person that people come to when they need to make something happen. I now want to share my passion and be the person to help make your life work better for you or your family.

My
Story

I'm one of the 'sandwich generation' - mum to a school-age daughter and two parents in their 80s. Throw a full-time job and perimenopause into the equation, and it has made for a very busy and challenging few years. Guilt was, and still is, invariably my over-riding feeling. Feeling guilty for not spending enough quality time with my daughter or for not being there when my parents need help. Whether it was simply getting them logged back into their Smart TV, helping them navigate online banking or negotiating hospital and doctor's appointments on their behalf, they are too far away for me to just pop round and the guilt is always there, knowing I can't help them as quickly as either they or I would like. Here is my story...

In 2022 my then 86 year-old dad had a stroke and subsequent mini strokes which led to him being diagnosed with vascular dementia. Whilst he and my mum are still managing in their own home; it was very apparent that my dad's short-term memory had deteriorated dramatically and all the skills he'd learned in later life: i.e using a mobile phone, computer or any modern technology were no longer easy for him. He has no problem recollecting memories from his younger days, but he's forgotten how to send an email, and some days he forgets how to log in to his online banking app and gets himself locked out. My dad had always been the one who embraced technology and my mum's knowledge of anything tech related is minimal, so as the dementia became more apparent and my dad's abilities declined they needed my help regularly as everyday tasks were becoming stressful for them.

Not only was I in a full time job with a young daughter, but they live over 100 miles away, so by the time I could carve out a full day to go and see them, the 'to-do' list had mounted up and I'd spend the whole day doing their life admin and general tasks around the house. Given my background and practical nature I relished being able to help them with tasks which were small and easy for me, but which had sometimes left them with sleepless nights and unnecessary stress.

Fast forward two years and my parents and I had settled into a routine and I had just been made redundant for the second time in less than three years. I knew I needed to reset my career and I knew I wanted to help people. People like me, people like my parents. I just didn't know how to do it. The redundancy had given me more time to spend helping my parents and they jokingly said that everyone needed someone like me and I should make a business of it. Luckily I found a great career coach who helped me solidify my thoughts. Since then I have had the fantastic opportunity to become a professional organiser and declutterer, which has just reiterated that my passion lies in helping people, and so my life organising story begins...

A good friend of mine, whose mum also has dementia, told me she'd been reminded how important it is to carve out time to spend sitting down and talking to our parents, letting them tell us their life stories whilst they can. She's absolutely right. It is as important, if not more so, as giving them practical help. I want to give you back time back to do just that. Let me help you with your or your parents' life admin so you can spend quality time together with your family. Whether you have parents who need a regular helping hand, or if you're a busy parent juggling family life or work and need some one-off help setting up systems and processes to help your home run more smoothly, let me help you.
